First Baptist Church of Wahiawa

Message from Pastor Steve

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good.

                     His love endures forever.

                                               Psalm 118:1

The Bible is full of reminders that our lives should be marked by a continual expression of gratitude.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for us...

Giving thanks is always in season.

As followers of Jesus, Thanksgiving should be more than a day on the calendar.  It is more than what we do.

Thanksgiving is who we are.

In our day there is too much coarse and obscene discourse.  Public rhetoric is seldom characterized by blessing or encouragement.  The Apostle Paul said that for followers of Jesus, there should be no "obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving." (Ephesians 5:4)  In other words, because of who we are, our speech should not be filled with foolish and foul words that tear down.  Rather, our words should express gratitude to God and those around us.

So let us be the change.

Instead of foolish talk, let us express some words of thanksgiving to God, to one another and all those around us.  Who we are in Christ will make a difference in our homes, in the church and in this world that is truly in need of a fresh infusion of life.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Mahalo and Aloha,
